How to Respond to “Misplaced Goodness”

For more than two years, Cosmosweaving and its leadership have been entangled in multiple civil and criminal proceedings arising from the same set of circumstances. This ordeal has fueled various speculations and fostered an atmosphere of distrust. Throughout the judicial process, we chose to respond with equanimity while maintaining a dignified silence; this restraint was not an admission of unfounded accusations, but a decision grounded in respect for the judiciary.

The article “How to Respond to ‘Misplaced Goodness’” constitutes our formal response to this turmoil. It is also an attempt to transform this experience into a spiritual reflection that holds broader significance—not only for us as individuals but for the entire community.

As a properly managed company and a member of the Anthroposophical community, our corporate governance, conduct, and finances are open to public scrutiny. However, we categorically reject any defamation based on mere conjecture. The ripple effects of this storm placed undue pressure and isolation upon our dedicated colleagues, our supportive directors and shareholders, and even our partners. It also left our long-standing readers and friends confused. Now, as all legal proceedings have concluded, we must, for the sake of Cosmosweaving’s reputation and the dignity of our partners, state the following with solemnity:

Following internal audits, court hearings, and prosecutorial investigations, all allegations against Cosmosweaving and its leadership were found to be entirely without factual basis. In the criminal cases, the prosecutor issued a decision of non-prosecution. After subsequent petitions for review were dismissed by the High Prosecutors Office, the non-prosecution ruling was finalized. Regarding the multiple civil lawsuits, all claims were dismissed at the trial court level. During the second-instance proceedings, the judges recommended a settlement to avoid further depletion of judicial resources and continued strain on the company. A settlement was thus reached, bringing to a close this dramatic and protracted litigation that spanned three calendar years.

During this period, some friends expressed concern, wondering if Cosmosweaving had disappeared. Dear friends, even in the most difficult moments, we never stopped. We have quietly published four profound books—two of which reached a second printing due to warm reception. We also continued to collaborate with partners who share our goodwill, moving forward with our various initiatives.

Admittedly, under the weight of legal procedures and unfounded accusations, we lacked the nuance and capacity to introduce our works as we usually would. Yet, these four books stand as the quiet, resilient imprints of our commitment to our vocation.

This storm was not just a period of exhaustion, but a profound trial of human nature. We observed that certain actions arise from erroneous certainties—where an impulse, though perhaps originating from a form of "goodness," becomes harmful because it is misplaced or untimely. Some narratives stem from inner scarcity and unobserved shadows. Truth does not vanish because one avoids it, but it remains incomplete when the core is bypassed.

At the onset of this storm, we reminded ourselves: “To everything fate throws at us, say: Yes.” Today, this journey reveals its deeper meaning. As an encounter with the Guardian of the Threshold, this trial was an inevitable chapter in the biography of Cosmosweaving. Through the spiritual insights of 魯道夫·史代納(Rudolf Steiner), this wound can be seen as a form of “untimely or misplaced good” (unzeitgemäßes Gutes). It is not pure evil, but a benevolent impulse that has not yet passed the test of self-awareness and free will. When such impulses act prematurely or without concrete responsibility, they paradoxically cause real harm.

In spiritual development, this “misplaced good” often serves as a necessary point of resistance (Widerstandspunkt). Though perceived as conflict or hostility, it exists to help us cultivate genuine free will. Through this resistance, we are forced to re-examine our motives, boundaries, and responsibilities. We move from “automatic goodness”—driven by temperament or collective atmosphere—toward a “free moral action” (freie moralische Tat) borne by awakened consciousness.

Just as friction allows us to walk in the physical world, this moral resistance strengthens our thinking, allowing us to remain unswayed by emotional turbulence. It enables us to discern truth in adversity and to choose the good freely. Through this trial, we learn how to remain aligned with truth without losing our love for the world.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our directors, shareholders, colleagues, and partners. Your steadfast support allowed Cosmosweaving to preserve its inner peace. To our readers: your trust has been our warm companion through the rain.

A true vocation is not one that never encounters storms, but one that holds fast to its original commitment after being tested. Wounds become marks—reminders of how we once guarded the inner light until it became our own.

We will continue to publish classics that touch the soul and serve the community with the spirit of the common good. We believe that every book and every dialogue brings more light into this world.

Ever toward goodwill, truth, and virtue—this remains our path.

On the eve of the storm’s full outbreak, we offered this reflection as a form of self-admonition. Looking back today, that insight—“saying yes to fate”—seems to have anticipated the life-gift bestowed by this trial.
